Teenage girl raped on Glasgow golf course

A teenage girl has been raped on a Glasgow golf course while golfers were playing nearby.

The 16-year-old was on Littlehill Golf Course, near Stobhill Hospital, when she separated from a friend at about 20:00 on Saturday 10 September.

A man, who had tried to speak to her, then grabbed her from behind, dragged her into undergrowth near the 10th green and raped her.

Police have asked golfers who were on the course at the time to come forward.

The teenage girl was on the course with her friend from about 17:00.

Suspect description

At about 20:00 they separated to return home and the girl began to walk across the golf course, in the direction of Auchinairn Road.

A man then approached her from behind and tried to speak to her.

She continued walking but the man grabbed her and dragged her into undergrowth where she was subjected to a serious sexual assault.

The suspect is described as white, Scottish, between 25 and 30, about 5ft 8in tall, of medium build.

At the time of the attack he was wearing a dark jacket and dark trousers.

Police have been checking CCTV images and carrying out door-to-door inquiries to try and find out more information about the suspect.

Inquiries so far have revealed that there were golfers on the course around the time of the incident.

Det Con Alan Watt, of Strathclyde Police, said: "We know that there were golfers still playing on the course around the time of the incident and it's possible that someone may have seen the suspect prior to, or after, the attack took place.

"I would appeal to people who were on the course that evening to please get in touch with us as a matter of urgency.

"A young woman has been subjected to a terrifying ordeal and it's imperative we trace the man responsible."

The golf course is overlooked by houses on Acredyke Road in Bolornock. Police believe someone may have seen the suspect either before or after the incident.
