Boy, 12, dies in crash on Erskine Bridge

A 12-year-old boy has been killed in a road crash on the Erskine Bridge in West Dunbartonshire.

Police said the accident happened about 12:00 and involved one car on the northbound carriageway of the bridge at the Dumbarton and Clydebank cut-offs.

The woman driver has been taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where she is receiving treatment for her injuries.

The Erskine Bridge heading north remains closed.

It is understood the car did not crash off the bridge.

A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police said: "Sadly a 12-year-old boy died at the scene.

"Police inquiries are ongoing into the cause of the crash and any witnesses are asked to contact the road policing department at Helen Street."
