Machete attacker Nicholas Henry jailed for 12 years

A man who almost cut off his victim's hand with a machete during a brutal attack in North Lanarkshire has been jailed for 12 years.

Nicholas Henry, 34, and an unknown accomplice attacked Allan Scott in a shop in Cumbernauld in January 2011.

He denied being part of the assault but was convicted of attempted murder at the High Court in Glasgow.

It emerged that Henry was previously jailed for six years in 2000 for assault and robbery.

The court heard how the motive for the attack on Mr Scott was not known.

The jury watched CCTV footage of the victim being set upon with the machete and a wooden pole as he did little to defend himself.

Jailing Henry, temporary judge Sean Murphy QC said he had committed an "extremely serious" offence.
