A Glasgow Warriors rugby player spent the night in custody in Italy following an altercation.

Dutch lock Rob Verbakel was held by police in Parma after the Warriors met Aironi in the RaboDirect Pro12 league on 5 November.

It is understood he was taken by police overnight and held for four hours following an altercation between three men.

Sources said the matter would not be pursued further.

One of those involved is understood to have been a friend of Verbakel's, and the third is understood to be an Italian rugby player.

A Glasgow Warriors spokesman said: "Glasgow Warriors are aware of an alleged incident involving one of our players in Italy last weekend.

"The club and the player in question have co-operated fully with the Italian authorities and will continue to do so as required.

"The club have been informed that the third party from the alleged incident does not wish to pursue the matter."

Verbakel joined Glasgow in September from New Zealand side Otago.
