Police investigating the death of a pensioner hit by his own car outside his home in South Lanarkshire have made another arrest.

James Simpson, 76, died after being struck by the Land Rover Discovery during a car theft in Ashgill on 29 November.

A 23-year-old man has been detained in connection with his death.

Another man Christopher Grenfell, 25, appeared in court last week charged with murder.

A third man was also arrested last week over Mr Simpson's death but was released pending further inquiries.

The 23-year-old is expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
