Police have launched a murder investigation after a 21-year-old man was fatally shot during a late-night incident in Paisley.

The body of Stephen Pollock was found after the shooting in Weaver Terrace at about 23:25 on Wednesday.

Emergency services had been called to a house following reports that a man had been injured. Local residents said gun shots had been heard.

Detectives described it as a horrific attack in a quiet residential street.

Det Supt Alan Buchanan, who is leading the investigation, said officers wanted to speak to anyone who could help piece together Stephen's last known movements prior to his death.

He said they were also trying to establish where Mr Pollock received his fatal injuries.

"He was found within a house on Weaver Terrace but we are still trying to establish if the incident occurred in the street, a garden or indeed within a house," he said.

"If anyone in the local area saw or heard any suspicious activity around the vicinity of Weaver Terrace, we would like to speak to them."
