Residents rescued from Govanhill flats fire

A tenement fire in Glasgow has led to 13 people being treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.

Crews from Polmadie and Castlemilk fire stations were called to the fire in Calder Street in the Govanhill area of the city at about 04:00.

They extinguished a fire in a pram being stored in a common close but thick smoke had spread through the four-storey building.

The firefighters led residents from the building to waiting ambulances.

A total of 13 people required assistance, with nine of them being taken to the nearby Victoria Infirmary.

None are thought to have been seriously hurt.
