A man has been charged with murder after the death of a 21-year-old who was found with gunshot wounds in Paisley.

The body of Stephen Pollock was discovered in a house in the town's Weaver Terrace on 21 December.

Shane McGrath, 49, is alleged to have shot and killed the abattoir worker.

Mr McGrath, from Morar Drive in Paisley, made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody when he appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court.

The charges allege that Mr McGrath assaulted Mr Pollock in Weaver Terrace, discharged a shotgun at him and murdered him.

It is also alleged that Mr McGrath, while acting along with others, culpably and recklessly discharged a shotgun at a vehicle in Laburnam Avenue, Beith, North Ayrshire, on the same day striking it and damaging it.

He is further charged with disposing of a shotgun on a railway embankment in Paisley, disposed of clothing by throwing them into the River Cart and attempted to defeat the ends of justice.
