Detectives have launched a murder inquiry after the death of a man in South Lanarkshire.

Strathclyde Police said Alan Kopp, 30, was discovered with stab wounds at a property in Kelvin Gardens, in the Hillhouse area of Hamilton, at about 15:45 on Monday.

He was taken to Hairmyres Hospital but died a short time later.

Following a post-mortem examination, his death is being treated as murder. Police have appealed for witnesses.

Det Ch Insp John McDonald said: "Our main focus is establishing a motive for this crime. We are currently carrying out extensive enquiries in the local area, including door-to-door enquiries and gathering CCTV footage, in an effort to obtain all available information on this crime and who is responsible.

"It is vital that I speak with anyone who was in the area of Kelvin Gardens around the time of the incident and may have seen Alan walking there - they could provide crucial information that may assist this inquiry.

"I would like to reassure members of the public that everything possible is being done to trace the person responsible for this murder."

There are additional patrols in the local area and an incident caravan has been set up at the scene.
