Hit-and-run man Joseph McCarthy dies in hospital

A man who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in Renfrewshire has died in hospital, police have said.

Joseph McCarthy, 49, from Paisley, was struck by a vehicle in Magnus Drive, Houston, on Monday. He died in hospital two days later.

In a statement, his family said he was a "great father to his four children" and would be "sadly missed".

A 55-year-old man, who was arrested in connection with the incident, appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

'Wonderful husband'

Police said that Mr McCarthy died from his injuries in Paisley's Royal Alexandra Hospital.

In a statement, his family said: "Joseph was a great father to his four children as well as a wonderful husband, son and brother.

"He was well known locally as 'Joe the Busker' and loved by everyone who knew him. He will be sadly missed.

"Our lives will never be the same again and we ask that our privacy be respected at this sad time as we try and come to terms with our loss."
