Search for man missing from yacht near Arran

The search for a man feared missing overboard from a yacht near Arran is resuming at first light.

Clyde Coastguard said the fishing vessel Scotia Star found the yacht in Kilbrannan Sound on Wednesday afternoon.

The vessel was towed to harbour and an air, sea and shoreline search was launched involving a Navy helicopter, coastguard and lifeboat teams.

No sign of the man has been found and the search was suspended overnight.

Clyde Coastguard watch manager Graeme Watters said on Wednesday evening: "Our teams and the lifeboats have been searching throughout this afternoon in difficult conditions, but we have not been able to find any sign of the missing man.

"He was last seen in harbour at lunchtime."

The search involved the Royal Navy helicopter from Prestwick, the Campbeltown and Arran RNLI lifeboats and the Arran and Tarbert Coastguard Rescue Teams.
