Two men are due to appear in court on Friday in connection with the death of a 57-year-old man in Glasgow.

William McKeeney, 57, originally from Donegal in Ireland, was attacked in Melville Street in the Pollokshields area at about 00:40 on Sunday.

He died from his injuries after being taken to the Victoria Infirmary.

Strathclyde Police said two men, aged 19 and 20, had been arrested. They are expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday.

Ch Supt Andrew Bates said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community in Pollokshields for their assistance and support in helping officers take this investigation forward so quickly.

"I have no doubt that without this we would not have been able to make these swift arrests.

"My officers will remain in the area working with elected members and the wider local community to provide public reassurance and ongoing support."

Mr McKeeney was a labourer who had been living in Glasgow for the past five years.
