Motherwell stabbing being treated as attempted murder

An attack on a 36-year-old man who was chased and stabbed by a group of people in North Lanarkshire is being treated as attempted murder.

The victim was stabbed by a man, who was with a group of people, as he left a house in Orbiston Court, Motherwell, at about 21:00 on Thursday.

He ran off but was chased by the rest of the group and stabbed again on Windmillhill Street.

The man is being treated for multiple stab wounds at Wishaw General Hospital.

His condition is described as serious but stable.

Det Ch Insp Pat Campbell, of Strathclyde Police, said: "It would appear that this man was attacked twice in a short time.

"Whether the attackers are known to each other is still to be established, so, I would appeal to anyone who was in the Windmillhill Street or Orbiston Court area to contact police.

"The only description of the suspects is that they were all male, white and aged between 18 and 30 years of age."

Det Ch Insp Campbell asked anyone was saw or heard a disturbance to come forward.
