Man critical after 'sustained' attack at Glasgow flats

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being found seriously injured at a block of high-rise flats in Glasgow.

Police said the 32-year-old had been the victim of a "sustained and prolonged" violent attack.

He was discovered in a common stairwell within a tower block in Lincoln Avenue, Knightswood, at about 00:30 on Saturday.

Detectives said they were treating the attack as attempted murder.

Officers have been conducting door-to-door inquiries and gathering CCTV images in an effort try to establish what happened.

Motive unclear

The man is being treated at the city's Western Infirmary.

Police said he sustained a number of serious injuries indicating that he has been the victim of a serious and violent attack.

Det Insp Fil Capaldi, from Strathclyde Police, said: "At this time it's not clear how this man came about his injuries.

"We do know that he has suffered a sustained and prolonged attack although the motive is unclear at present.

"I am appealing to local residents in the area to contact us so that we can find out what has happened and who has carried out this violent assault.

"I urge anyone with any information, even if they think it's not important, to pass it on to us as it could help us piece together the circumstances of what took place."
