Lorry driver John McQuade dies after being hit on M74
A 47-year-old lorry driver who died after being struck by a passing tanker as he stood at the side of the M74 in South Lanarkshire has been named.
Police said John McQuade, from Livingston in West Lothian, died after being hit near Hamilton on Wednesday.
He had been adjusting the straps on his lorry on the hard shoulder at about 07:00 when he was struck by the tanker.
The carriageway between junctions 6 and 7 was closed for almost five hours after the accident.
Mr McQuade was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General but died a short time later.
The 43-year-old driver of the tanker was not injured.
