Two teenagers have been detained by police over a blaze which led to a man being rescued from the 14th floor balcony of a Glasgow tower block.

Crews were called to the flats in Wyndford Road, in the city's Maryhill area, at about 02:43 on Tuesday.

All flats above the affected 14th floor area were evacuated.

Residents were allowed back into their homes shortly after 06:00. Police said two men, aged 18 and 19, were being questioned over the blaze.

Three people were given precautionary checks at the scene by paramedics.

It is understood that no-one was seriously injured.

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Chief Officer Brian Sweeney said: "This was an exemplary response from our firefighters, who were on the scene only four minutes after receiving the first call.

"This was a textbook operation by our firefighters and shows that our crews are trained and ready to answer the call to protect the communities they serve."
