Man sought after Lochgilphead shop robbery

Police are hunting a masked man who used a knife to steal a four-figure sum of cash from a shop in Argyll and Bute.

The man entered RS McColls newsagents on Argyll Street, Lochgilphead, at about 07:30 on Monday.

He threatened a female member of staff before she handed over the cash. The woman was not injured in the incident.

The man wore a yellow or light coloured mask. He was between 16 and 19 years old and was wearing a dark hoodie, dark trousers and boots.

He was also carrying a yellow drawstring bag.

The suspect was seen heading east after he left the shop.

Det Insp Dougie Wilson, of Strathclyde Police, said: "This was a very frightening experience for the woman concerned who, thankfully, was not injured in the incident.

"I would like to speak to anyone who may have seen this man hanging around suspiciously near to the newsagents at the time of the incident, or anyone who may have seen him in the surrounding area.

"Early enquiries have revealed that a man fitting his description was seen near to the Co-Op in the town later that morning, and I would appeal to anyone with information to get in touch with police."
