Girl, eight, targeted by man in car in Kings Park

Police have appealed for witnesses after an eight year old girl was approached by a stranger in the south side of Glasgow.

The girl was targeted while playing in Kingsdale Avenue, Kings Park, at about 20:12 on Sunday.

The man, who was driving a five-door, medium-sized, dark-coloured car, spoke to the child in an effort to encourage her to get into the car.

She ran away from him and he drove off in the direction of Aikenhead Road.

Det Con Lesley Reid, of Strathclyde Police, said: "The man who spoke to this child was wearing a hooded top with the hood up. Fortunately the girl refused to go with this male and ran for help.

"I would urge anyone who was in the Kings Park area last night and saw what has been described as a five-door, medium-sized family car, dark in colour, possibly a Toyota Avensis or similar style vehicle driving around the area to come forward.

"It is important that we trace the man who put this child in a state of fear and alarm."

Det Con Reid said "everything possible" was being done to trace the man and extra patrols would be in the area to reassure local people.
