Cyclist stabbed in Renfrewshire street

An attack on a cyclist who was stabbed in the Elderslie area of Renfrewshire is being treated as attempted murder.

The 41-year-old man was cycling along the town's Lomond Gardens at about 12:30 on Monday, when he stopped to speak to another man.

Following an argument, the victim was assaulted and stabbed. He is being treated for neck and abdominal injuries at Paisley's Royal Alexandra Hospital.

After the attack, the suspect ran off in the direction of Willow Avenue.

'Distinctive tracksuit'

The suspect is described as white, Scottish, in his 20s, well built, with short red hair.

At the time of the assault he was wearing a white tracksuit.

Det Con Gordon Smith, of Strathclyde Police, said: "Lomond Gardens is a residential street and I am very keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard an argument on their street around 12:30 on Monday.

"The man was wearing a distinctive white tracksuit and I would also ask anyone who saw a man matching his description in Lomond Gardens or Willow Avenue or the surrounding area to contact me."
