A man has died after collapsing while taking part in the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow.

He was seen falling to the ground in the city's Ballater Street just after 13:00 on Sunday.

The man was taken for treatment to Glasgow Royal Infirmary but died a short time later.

More than 20,000 runners take part in the event, which organisers claim is the largest mass-participation sporting event in the country.

Councillor Archie Graham, the depute leader of Glasgow City Council, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this very sad time."
