Woman dies after being hit by car near Shotts Golf Club

An elderly woman has died after being hit by a car in North Lanarkshire in the early hours of the morning.

The woman, who has not been named, was hit by a dark-coloured Vauxhall Vectra, on the B717 Benhar Road, Shotts, near to the waterworks, at about 04:20.

Emergency services arrived but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 46-year-old man who was driving the car was uninjured. Strathclyde Police said extensive inquiries were under way to establish the cause of the incident.
