Man, 25, dies after being hit by car near Rutherglen

A 25-year-old man has died after being struck by a car on the outskirts of Rutherglen in South Lanarkshire.

The man was crossing Dalmarnock Road, near its junction with Downiebrae Road, when he was struck by a Nissan Qashqai car at about 23:15 on Wednesday.

Emergency services were called but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 27-year-old driver of the Nissan car and his three passengers were uninjured. Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
