Reindeer names for puppies dumped in Glasgow bin shelter

The puppies, thought to be about six weeks old, were found dumped beside a wheelie bin shelter

Six puppies found dumped beside a wheelie bin shelter have been named after some of Santa's flying reindeer.

The six-week-old crossbreeds were found in a plastic box and handed in to the Scottish SPCA's Glasgow care centre on Wednesday.

Staff named the dogs Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet and Cupid.

The charity, who will now look for new homes for the puppies, said they were "really friendly" and in "good condition".

Assistant manager Anna O'Donnell said: "It's so sad that these lovely guys and girls have had such a tough start in life.

"The pups weren't cold which we would have expected if they had been left outside all night, so we don't think they had been there for too long before they were found."

She added: "It seems they have been well cared for up until now. It's possible someone has panicked after their dog had an unplanned litter and didn't want to find suitable new homes for the puppies themselves.

"We're very glad the pups are now safe and we'll soon be looking to find them the loving owners they deserve."

Abandoning animals is an offence and anyone found guilty of doing so can be banned from keeping animals for life.

The Scottish SPCA has urged anyone with information about the dogs to contact them.
