A major search has been ongoing in Argyll for a man who went missing over the weekend.

Michael Pringle, 25, from Kilmarnock, was last seen walking along the A85 from Loch Awe village at about 01:00 on Sunday.

He and his father earlier visited the Tight Line pub near Oban and were returning to their campsite when they became separated.

Police said he does not know the area and they are concerned for his safety.

Coastguards, members of the local mountain rescue team and officers with Strathclyde Police's marine unit have been searching the loch shores near the village and Kilchurn Castle.

The search has been called off for the night but was expected to resume again on Tuesday morning.

Mr Pringle was described as about 5ft 9in, slim, with short dark hair and wearing a green camouflage-type jacket over fishing waders.

Insp Julie McLeish, of Oban police office, said: "Michael has never been missing before, and he is not from the area so as time passes we are becoming increasingly concerned for his wellbeing and safety.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen Michael around the area of Kilchurn Castle to get in touch with police."
