Woman, 82, attacked and robbed in her Maybole home

A man is being sought by police after an 82-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed in her home in South Ayrshire.

The woman became aware that a man was in her house in Cassillis Road, Maybole, at about 18:20 on Thursday.

The man then demanded money and pushed the woman before making off with a sum of cash. She sustained a slight hand injury but did not need medical help.

Police are studying CCTV footage from the area and conducting door-to-door inquiries in a bid to find the suspect.

He is described as white, about 5ft 9in/10in tall and has a thin build.

'A little dodgy'

At the time of the attack, he was wearing a dark hooded jacket with the hood up and a grey coloured scarf across his face.

Det Insp Alan Sommerville, of Strathclyde Police, said: "This man may have been hanging around the area prior to the incident taking place, perhaps someone noticed him and thought he was acting a little oddly.

"If anyone did notice anything suspicious, I would urge them to get in touch with us. Your information could assist us in tracing the man responsible for this crime.

"Additional patrols will be in the area offering reassurance to residents and any information can be passed on to these officers."
