Woman, 80, targeted in Blantyre home robbery

Police are hunting a man who robbed an 80-year-old woman after forcing his way into her home in South Lanarkshire.

The victim suffered slight facial injuries after opening her door to a man who then pushed past her and assaulted her.

He then stole a three-figure sum of cash before leaving the house.

Police said the woman was "badly shaken" by the incident, which took place in Caerlaverlock Place, Blantyre, at about 20:30 on Saturday.

'Truly despicable'

The suspect is described as white and about 5ft 4in tall. He was wearing a black, hooded woollen jacket and a black beanie hat, and had a scarf across his face.

Det Const James Conway said: "The man responsible for this is truly despicable.

"To target an elderly woman in her home is a cowardly act and it's imperative we find him.

"I am appealing to local people in the area who may have seen the suspect or noticed anything a little out of the ordinary or suspicious to please get in touch with us."
