Jason Spencer jailed for Rutherglen bookmakers robbery

A man who took a taxi from his home to carry out an armed robbery has been jailed for four years and eight months.

Jason Spencer, 36, asked the driver to wait in King Street, Rutherglen, while he collected keys from a nearby pub.

Instead, he put on a balaclava and used an imitation gun to rob the William Hill bookmakers in Main Street of £280.

Spencer was identified by a customer who followed him outside. The customer saw him take off his balaclava and also noted the taxi registration number.

Judge Lord Turnbull told Spencer, from Rutherglen, that but for his early plea of guilty he would have been jailed for seven years.
