Shopsmart assistant in Cumbernauld threatened with knife

A man threatened a shop assistant in Cumbernauld with a knife before running off with a small amount of cash.

The incident happened at Shopsmart in Fleming Road at about 12:00 on Friday. Police said the 59-year-old woman who was threatened was not injured.

The suspect was described as white, about 5ft 10in tall, of slight build.

He was wearing a light grey track suit and a dark grey balaclava. He made off via the wooded area near the shop at Allanfauld Road.

Officers are gathering CCTV images and have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries.

Det Con Rachel Peebles said: "The green area close to the store is commonly used by local people and it's possible someone may have noticed the man pass through this area.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in that area at the time, perhaps with their children or out walking their dog, to get in touch with us. Even if you think your information is insignificant, please do pass it on to officers."
