Bungling robber William McNally jailed for shop raid

A man who was caught on CCTV cameras putting on a balaclava and taking out an air pistol before robbing a shop in Glasgow has been jailed for six years.

William McNally admitted threatening Mohamed Ashraf before making off with about £200 from Sunshine Grocers, in Carntyne Road, on 7 April last year.

The High Court in Glasgow heard how the 29-year-old was identified by police from the CCTV footage.

Despite wearing the balaclava, he was also identified by Mr Ashraf.

Police later recovered the air pistol after searching McNally's home in the city's Cranhill area.

The court was told police experts who examined the pistol found it to be defective and incapable of firing.
