Doctor 'inappropriate contact' claim at Wishaw Hospital

Police are investigating reports of "inappropriate contact" by a doctor towards a patient at a hospital in North Lanarkshire.

It is understood that a female patient lodged a complaint about the conduct of a male doctor at Wishaw General Hospital last week.

NHS Lanarkshire said a formal investigation was now underway.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said they received reports of the alleged incident and were investigating.

She said: "We can confirm that we are investigating a report of inappropriate contact within Wishaw General Hospital which we received at the end of July. Inquiries are ongoing."

A spokesman for NHS Lanarkshire said: "A formal investigation involving an NHS Lanarkshire member of staff is under way following a patient complaint."
