Investigation into Kirkintilloch industrial unit fire

Kirkintilloch industrial unit blaze About 40 firefighters were called in to tackle the blaze

Police and the fire service are to conduct a joint investigation into a major blaze at an unoccupied industrial unit in East Dunbartonshire.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Woodilee Road, near Kirkintilloch, at 18:30 on Tuesday.

The building was well alight after fire took hold in waste materials inside.

About 40 firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading. After it was extinguished, dampening down operations continued until Wednesday morning.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said the operation was supported by firefighters from across East Dunbartonshire, Glasgow and North Lanarkshire.

Crews tackled the blaze using high-pressure water jets and an aerial appliance.

A thermal imaging camera was used to identify hot-spots within the building during the dampening phase of the operation.
