Five held over Wallace Allan jewellery shop raid in Ayr

Five men have been detained after an attempted robbery at a jewellery shop in Ayr.

Police were called to Wallace Allan jewellers in the town's Newmarket Street at about 12:45.

It is understood the thieves were carrying an axe and a gun. A staff member is said to have been left with a minor injury.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland: "Five men had been detained in connection with the incident."

The Scottish Ambulance Service said it responded to a police call for assistance in the street. One person was taken to Ayr Hospital but no further details on their condition were available.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it also attended the scene.
