Fire in Holy Cross Parish Church grounds was deliberate
A fire in the grounds of a church in the south side of Glasgow was started deliberately, police have said.
The blaze broke out at a garage within the Holy Cross Parish Church site in Dixon Avenue, Govanhill, at 03:15.
The structure was badly damaged along with Honda Jazz and Toyota Yaris cars.
The fire did not spread to the church or chapel house, where two priests, aged 41 and 66, live. Police want to trace two men who were seen leaving the scene of the fire.
One was wearing a white t-shirt and dark denim jeans.
The other was wearing a dark hooded top and light grey jogging trousers.
Det Insp Joe McKerns, of Police Scotland, said: "Fortunately the fire was contained and the two priests who live in the chapel house were not injured.
"Two males were seen leaving the scene. They headed off on foot in the direction of Belleisle Street.
"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around 03:15 and saw these individuals to come forward. At this time, there is no estimate of the cost of damage to the property."
