Man critical after being hit by van on A77 in Kilmarnock

A 53-year-old man is in a critical condition after being hit by a van on the A77 in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire.

The incident happened as the man was walking on the southbound carriageway, about two miles north of the Bogend Toll, at about 21:30 on Monday.

He is being treated for serious injuries at Crosshouse Hospital.

Police Scotland said the van and its driver had been traced but appealed for anyone who may have seen the incident or the man beforehand to contact them.
