Brian Toner in court over Springside 'gun' incident

A teenager has been charged after reports of a gunman in a village near Irvine in Ayrshire.

Police dog units and a helicopter were called in and three people detained following the alert in Station Drive, Springside, on Sunday.

Brian Toner, 19, of Kilmarnock, is accused of having a firearm in a public place and using threatening or abusive behaviour.

He made no plea or declaration at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.

He was released on bail.

An 18-year-old woman who had been charged with breach of the peace was released before appearing in the dock.

A spokesman for the Crown Office said: "Following full and careful consideration of the report by the procurator fiscal, she was liberated pending further inquiries.

"The report remains under consideration by the procurator fiscal."
