Two men sought over armed raid on Irvine bookmakers

Police are hunting two masked men who carried out an armed robbery at a bookmakers in North Ayrshire.

The men raided Coral Bookmakers, in Burns Crescent, Irvine, at about 20:20 on Tuesday.

They threatened two members of staff with a knife before escaping with a three-figure sum of cash. The male and female workers were uninjured.

Police said the "frightening" incident had left the staff "very shaken". They have appealed for witnesses.

The first suspect is described as white, about 6ft tall and of slim build. He was wearing a long sleeved grey coloured top.

The second man is also described as white, about 6ft tall and of slim build.

Both men were wearing black balaclava's.

Det Insp Stevie Wallace, of Police Scotland, said: "This was clearly a distressing and frightening incident that has left the staff members who were working in the shop very shaken.

"My officers are continuing to carry out inquiries in, and around Burns Crescent, and are currently studying CCTV footage in an effort to gather more information on this crime and the identity of the two men responsible.

"I am confident that with the continued assistance from the people in the local community, along with the information being gathered from ongoing police enquires we will arrest those responsible."
