Body found in St Andrews believed to be Manvir Singh

Manvir Singh Police launched a search for Manvir Singh after he went missing on 19 March

A body which was found in St Andrews on Thursday is believed to be that of missing medical student Manvir Singh, police have said.

Mr Singh had been missing from his home in Bishopbriggs since 19 March.

The body of a man was found at Kinkell Braes, St Andrews, at about 11:00 on Thursday.

After Mr Singh's disappearance, police launched searches at bus stations in Glasgow and Fife in a bid to trace the Glasgow University student.

In a statement, Police Scotland said that although formal identification of the body found in St Andrews had still to take place, it was believed it to be that of Mr Singh.

They added: "A post mortem will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death, however, there would not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

"A full report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
