Rapist Barry McBurnie weeps as he is jailed for seven years

A man who raped a 34-year-old woman in her North Ayrshire home has been jailed for seven years.

Barry McBurnie, from Ayr, was convicted of raping the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, at her home in Irvine on 29 September 2013.

The 33-year-old was also convicted of assaulting his victim.

McBurnie, who claimed during the trial that his victim was lying and put on an "Oscar winning performance", wept as he was sentenced.

Judge Bill Dunlop QC told McBurnie: "You appear to have little regard for women."
