Man in court over attacks on two people in Cambuslang

A man has appeared in court charged with attempting to murder a taxi driver and elderly woman in South Lanarkshire.

James McFarlane is accused of striking Andrew Burns, 44, with a knife in Glenburn Avenue, Cambuslang, on Friday and then stealing his car.

The 33-year-old, from Rutherglen, is also charged with striking 68-year-old Jean Evans with a knife in Dukes Road.

He made no plea or declaration during a private appearance at Glasgow Sheriff Court and was remanded in custody.
