Appeal over 'homophobic attack' on teenager in Glasgow

Police area treating an assault on a 16-year-old woman in Glasgow city centre as a "homophobic crime".

The teenager was with a 19-year-old woman in St Enoch Square when they were approached and verbally abused by a man at about 01:00 on 12 July.

The man then assaulted the 16-year-old who required treatment for a facial injury, at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

He was about 20 years old, 6ft tall and had red hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt.

The man was also carrying a black rucksack.

Supt Alan Porte, of Police Scotland, said: "Extensive inquiries are ongoing into this incident which is being treated as a homophobic crime.

"Officers are continuing to study CCTV footage in an effort to gather more information on the suspect."

Police have asked anyone with information to contact them.
