Masked gunmen terrify man and daughter at Ayrshire home

Two masked men have escaped with a five-figure sum of cash after forcing their way into a house and threatening a man and his daughter with a firearm.

The men targeted the property in Glen Avenue, Largs, North Ayrshire at about 23:00 on Sunday. They also made off with personal items from the family.

The gun was not fired during the incident and neither the 49-year-old man or his daughter, 17, were hurt.

Police are checking CCTV images and have appealed for information.

Both suspects are described as being about 5ft 10in tall and of slim build.

'Terrifying attack'

At the time of the robbery each was wearing a balaclava and dark clothing.

Det Sgt John Deans, of Police Scotland, said: "Thankfully no one was injured but it was a terrifying attack on the man and his family.

"We do believe that it was very much a targeted attack as the men involved knew what they were looking for.

"It is possible the men made off in a waiting car and we are checking CCTV and doing door-to-door inquiries in the area to establish this."

Det Sgt Deans added: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area, who may have seen something suspicious, maybe the men or the car prior to or after the robbery, to contact police."
