Delays after bin thrown from bridge hits train at Wishaw

An investigation has been launched after a train suffered minor damage and other services were delayed when a wheelie bin was thrown on to the track.

British Transport Police (BTP) said the 20:40 Partick to Lanark service clipped an object on the tracks near Wishaw at about 21:30 on 13 August.

Officers later found a plastic bin which they believe was thrown from the Dimsdale Road overbridge.

BTP has appealed for information in a bid to trace those responsible.

PC Craig Jennings said: "The train which clipped the bin did not suffer any serious damage, but several other trains were delayed while BTP investigated.

"While these delays inconvenienced passengers, it is fortunate that the consequences were not more serious.

"I believe the bin was deliberately thrown onto the track and I am now appealing to the local community to get in touch with any information which they think could prove useful."
