Man dies after being hit by car near Beith
A man has died after he was struck by a car on a road in Ayrshire in the early hours of the morning.
The 22-year-old was walking on the A737 near Beith at about 01:40 when he was hit by a black Mitsubishi Coupe.
Police Scotland said the pedestrian died at the scene. The driver of the car was taken to hospital with minor injuries but has since been released.
Officers said the road would have been quiet at the time but have appealed for witnesses.
A full report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
Sgt Steven White said: "I realise that the road would not have been particularly busy at that time of the morning, however I would urge anyone who was in the area and saw the crash to come forward.
"I would also ask motorists who were driving on that stretch of road if they noticed someone walking in the road or remember passing a man walking in that area."
