Teenager hit by car in Darvel in critical condition

A teenager is in a critical condition after she was hit by a car in Darvel, East Ayrshire.

The 17-year-old was hit by a blue Mercedes CLA as she crossed the A71 at West Main Street at 18:44 on Friday.

She was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock where her condition was described as critical but stable.

The 23-year-old car driver and his passenger were uninjured. Police want to trace the driver of a white van which stopped after the incident.

Sgt Ian Thornton, of Police Scotland, said: "We understand that there was a white van which was stopped at the junction of Burns Road, directly after the pedestrian was struck.

"We ask that the driver get in touch with information which may be relevant."

Sgt Thornton asked anyone with information to contact police.
