Woman, 86, 'critical' after being hit by car in East Kilbride

An 86-year-old woman is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car in South Lanarkshire.

Police said the pedestrian was struck by a Fiat 500 car on Murray Road, near its junction with Murrayhill, in East Kilbride, at about 08:00.

She is being treated at the town's Hairmyres Hospital.

The 20-year-old car driver was not injured but said to be "badly shaken" as a result of the crash. Police have appealed for witnesses.
