Shirtless man sought over sex attack on train in Ayr

British Transport Police are attempting to trace a bare-chested man who tried to rape a woman on a train.

The 25-year-old victim was attacked in the toilet of the train, which was stationary at Ayr station, between 22:20 and 23:00 on Friday.

The train was the service for Glasgow Central due to leave Ayr at 23:00.

The suspect was described as being 6ft tall, of thin build with curly, dark brown hair, stubble on his face and several tattoos on his torso.

At the time of the attack he was wearing blue jeans and black trainers.

Det Sgt Martin Turner, of British Transport Police, said: "We know the train was busy with other passengers at the time and the man I believe carried out the assault would have been distinctive as he had no top on at the time.

"I would urge anyone who was on the train at the time and has information which can help the inquiry to contact BTP as a matter of urgency."
