Car strikes man lying on the road

A man who had been lying on a road in Airdrie is in a critical condition after being struck by a car.

Police Scotland said a silver Mazda hit the 46-year-old on the town's Drumbathie Road at about 22:25 on Saturday.

Emergency services were called and the man was taken to Monklands Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Mazda was badly shaken but uninjured. Police have appealed for witnesses.

Officers said the driver of a VW Polo stopped to help, but asked anyone else who may have seen anything to get in touch.
