Woman, 66, dies in Lanarkshire coal depot accident

A 66-year-old woman has died in an industrial accident at a coal yard in North Lanarkshire.

Margaret Corcoran, who was a supervisor at Fergusson Group, was hit by an industrial loader at the depot on Holytown Road, Bellshill, on Tuesday.

Police said her death was not being treated as suspicious.

A joint investigation into the circumstances of the accident in being conducted by Police Scotland and the Health and Safety Executive.

Fergusson Group confirmed that Ms Corcoran was a depot supervisor at the site and had worked there for 10 years.

'Tragic accident'

Site manager John Macauley said: "Our thoughts are with Margaret's family at this very difficult time.

"I have personally known Margaret for 10 years, she was a popular and respected colleague and we are all devastated by this tragic accident.

"We continue to co-operate fully with the police and the Health and Safety Executive during their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident."

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "We can confirm that police and emergency services were called to a report of a 66-year-old woman having being seriously injured within Fergusson Group Ltd, Holytown Road, Bellshill, around 1600 hours on Tuesday 2 December.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

"An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing between Police Scotland and the Health and Safety Executive."
