Police are attempting to trace four men who attacked a 48-year-old man after he came out of a pub in North Ayrshire.

The victim was set upon as he left the Tartan Bar, in North Street, Dalry, at about 22:30 on Wednesday.

He was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock and treated for a head injury before being released.

Police said they were gathering CCTV images in a bid to identify the four men and appealed to anyone in the area at the time to contact them.

Det Sgt John Deans, of Police Scotland, said: "There is no motive for this attack or reason for why this man was targeted by the four men involved.

"It's imperative we trace them and I am appealing to anyone who was in the pub and may have seen something or to anyone who was in the area and who may have seen the attack or the four men running off following the attack."
