Taxi driver dies after his car falls into Ayr Harbour

A taxi driver has died after his car fell into a harbour on Boxing Day.

Police recovered the body of the man, who was 59, and his vehicle from Ayr Harbour at about 13:30 on Friday.

While the man has not been formally identified, he is understood to be James Irvine who was reported missing on 23 December.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal and a post-mortem examination will be held on Monday to determine the cause of death.

Specialist divers took part in an operation to find the man and the car on the north side of the harbour on Boxing Day.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious by the police.
